Congratulations and thanks to Peter Glenshaw who provided us with a provocative and timely presentation on “Much Worse than an Opioid Crisis: The Epidemic of ‘Deaths of Despair’ in New Hampshire”. Click here for the videotaped presentation. As many of you know we received a grant for our monthly programs back in January. If you have the time, we would appreciate your filling out this survey, so we are able to report back on program outcomes. Many thanks!

“The Devil We Know” is the story of how one synthetic chemical, used to make Teflon products, contaminated a West Virginia community. New research suggests that nearly all Americans have been exposed to non-stick chemicals in food, drinking water, and consumer products and that they’re in our blood.

The showing will include a panel of experts and meaningful actions that you can take to demand clean drinking water in New Hampshire.

The Upper Valley Adaptation Workgroup will host its spring forum on April 11 from 4:30–8 p.m. “Let’s Talk About Climate Change” will prepare attendees to have more effective conversations about climate change, address common misconceptions, and build the skills necessary to feel more comfortable discussing the topic.

2019 Spring RootSkills Series

The RootSkills series is about building networks. The workshop offerings are about helping grassroots organizers develop their own solutions to complex environmental and social justice issues that affect where they live. Workshop sessions are both process- and issue-based.

This event will focus on racial and economic disparities as we consider inequity in rural New England communities.

We hear a lot about lobbyists and their role in government, especially in Washington, D.C. So how does it work in New Hampshire?

Hint: they are wearing the bright orange name tags. Learn about what they do and how lobbying works in this episode of New Hampshire Public Radio’s Civics 101: New Hampshire podcast. Citizens Count is a collaborator on this podcast project which features the insight of Anna Brown, our Director of Research and Analysis, and Jacquelyn Benson, our Content Editor.

Other podcast topics include the state budget, secretary of state, governor, and town meetings.

‘National Week of Conversation’ 
April 5-13

Americans from all over the country will take a small step to help bridge the political divides in our country.

They will do this by reaching out to people who have different political views and engaging them in civil and respectful conversation about the future of our nation.

The goal of these conversations is to help people learn from each other, build relationships and look for ways to reduce the growing polarization in our public life.

This is where you come in! Join the challenge!

Interested individuals are encouraged to have at least one in depth conversation during the week with someone who they think has significantly different views about how to deal with the major issues facing our country.

Sound interesting, but you’re not sure?

  • You can download sample conversations with some ground rules.
  • You will ask the same five questions everyone else taking the challenge will be asking!
  • AND you only need to talk to ONE person during the week!

Sign up HERE and when you are done, take five minutes to report on your conversation on the site. Don’t forget to sign up as part of the Upper Valley Democrats.
