Zoom Links to New Events!

Admittedly, things seem more dystopian and unreal every day . . . and even though we’d like to see Randy Rainbow get VP, another name has come up in op-ed pieces lately so we’d like to highlight Tammy Duckworth today. I admit to being teary and unstable, and this ad, VoteVets Ad – Duckworth Is Ready, manipulated tears easily.

It is simply impossible to stress enough the importance of getting the word out to REGISTER TO VOTE and to APPLY FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTS. It may seem repetitive to those of you who pay attention but trust us when we say (over and over) that most people don’t pay that much attention. Plus most are still isolating or at least social distancing and this subject just doesn’t resonate. Bring it up anyway! The UVDems are offering a workshop given by the NHDP on July 9th that will address this issue and give us skills and tactics to be able to convince people of the urgency to prepare for this election! Even if you’ve never considered volunteering or getting involved, this workshop will train you to become a more informative friend/family or community member. No strings attached.

Remember the good ol days when Cory Booker came to town and we packed into Salt Hill to listen and to marvel? He was our first . . . ah well . . . but now we can zoom in to see/hear Sen. Booker and our own Annie Kuster have a confab about holding onto the House and how they are working to keep Dems in the majority up and down. Looking forward to a rousing conversation on July 17th. Sign up below.

Also remember “see something, say something”? about terrorism or something? Now it’s about misinformation which is toxic and uber dangerous. So learn to identify it. Learn how to stop it. See below for info.

And enjoy the Fourth! There is the boat parade on Mascoma this Saturday at 2 p.m. Chances are traditional parades will be few and far between. (Just did a quick google and the word CANCELED came up again and again!) Some day our lives will get back to “normal.” Until then, let’s adapt, make new traditions and keep our chins up!

Not-To-Be-Missed events this week!

At some point, sane, law-abiding citizens who care about fairness and justice for all have to go into some kind of shutdown as we get pummeled every day by more and more examples of injustice and greedy manipulation. OK we’ll list a few examples:

1. fair and safe voting–that can’t be too difficult, right? but at every turn the republicans somehow have made the actual act of voting as difficult as they can, twisting an already archaic system to be more and more complicated. So, thanks to activists and clear-thinking legislators, we can at least tick the box that says “disabled” and mean “COVID scares me and i’m not putting myself or others in danger” and order up absentee ballots. See below and tell everyone you know.

2. taxation–we already have a confused and twisted tax system that lacks even a guise of fairness. We will be joining Andru Volinsky’s town hall Wednesday to get his take on taxation in New Hampshire and exactly why it is so unfair and what he’s planning to do about it.

3. race in 2020–seriously? we  don’t start out life as racist bigots. It’s drilled into us by a system designed to benefit from our ignorance. If people put it in other people’s heads, people can fix it. Pay attention to BLM. They are credible, they have identified the problem and are working on solutions.

4. gerrymandering and other forms of voter suppression–please follow the link below to see the video of this month’s program on voting issues in New Hampshire. You are sure to gain a clear understanding of what we are up against.

5. and finally the word “bi-partisan”–used so rarely that hens’ teeth come to mind. Why? Voters are generally looking for results to be fair and just. Why is it so hard to consider the interests of the majority as something to strive for? Our governor needs to consider the bills and amendments submitted by our legislators and listed below. They all address how our citizens’ lives can be made a bit easier with a fair wage and justice for those caught, through no fault of their own, in the web of COVID. Senator Dan Feltes will walk us through all the legislation proposed this session tomorrow.

When you talk to people–friends, relatives, strangers–remind them of the application process to acquire an absentee ballot and ask them to pass it on. And somehow, let’s figure out how to use the word “bi-partisan” more often.
